Mr. James E. Dykes
has been the Director of Bands and Orchestra at Dunedin High School
since 2002. The Scottish Highlander Bands have grown in
accomplishments though extensive experiences through
performance.
He
holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from
Florida Southern College
and is pursuing his Masters in Music Performance from the
University of North Texas. Mr. Dykes was featured soloist
and active musician involved on numerous CD recordings with
the
University of North Texas Wind Symphony
under the direction of Eugene Corporon. Mr. Dykes also serves as
an active music arranger and band clinician.
In
addition to his teaching responsibilities,
Mr. Dykes holds an active schedule as a
freelance trombonist in the Tampa Bay area. His most
recent performance was with Peter Cetera
from the band Chicago, Frank Wildborn,
Broadway composer of Jekyll and Hyde, and
in Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center's
productions of the Opera Carmen, and Il
Trovatore under the
direction of Anton Cappolla. He also performs with
the Pinellas All Star Faculty Jazz Band and
the Mostly Pops Orchestra, under the
direction of Robert Romanski.
Mr. Dykes is currently the High School Representative for the
Pinellas County Music Educators Association, he also
holds professional memberships in the
Florida Band Masters Association,
Florida Orchestra Association,
Florida Music Educators Association, Music Educators National
Conference,
International Trombone Association, and
is an alumni of
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America. Under his
direction, the bands have earned Top Ratings in Music
Performance Assessments.
